En 2017, notre équipe de recherche a révélé que le plus grand complexe de tourbières tropicales au monde se trouve au cœur de l’Afrique. La tourbe s’y accumule depuis 10.000 ans. À l’heure actuelle, les tourbières contiennent une réserve de 30 milliards de tonnes de carbone, ce qui exige une protection attentive.
Le projet CongoPeat réunit une équipe interdisciplinaire d’experts de renom afin d’étudier cet écosystème nouvellement découvert et pourtant menacé.
