Filename: Aboveground_Biomass.xlsx Article which data supports: Bocko et al. 2023. Allometric equation for Raphia laurentii De Wild, the commonest palm in the Central Congo Peatlands. PLOS ONE Corresponding author: Dr Yannick Bocko Corresponding author email: byannickenock@gmail.com Description: A file containing variables required for aboveground biomass estimates and component and total aboveground biomass estimates for each of the 90 Raphia laurentii individuals destructively sampled. Variables: Raphia laurentii Individuals: The unique code for each of the 90 Raphia laurentii individuals destructively sampled. Diameter at Stem Base (cm): Diameter of the stem base of the Raphia laurentii individual, measured in centimeters, prior to felling. Number of Palm Fronds: Number of living palm fronds of the Raphia laurentii individual. Palm Frond Mean Diameter (cm): The mean of all palm frond diameters, in centimeters, for the Raphia laurentii individual. Sum of Palm Frond Diameters (cm): The sum of all palm frond diameters, in centimeters, for the Raphia laurentii individual. Total Height 1 (m): The total height of the Raphia laurentii individual, measured in meters from the north aspect. It is defined as the length from the base of the stem to the top of the fronds, i.e. the highest point above the ground. This was measured using a hypsometer prior to felling. Total Height 2 (m): The total height of the Raphia laurentii individual, measured in meters from the south aspect. It is defined as the length from the base of the stem to the top of the fronds, i.e. the highest point above the ground. This was measured using a hypsometer prior to felling. Stem Height (m): The height of the stem, in meters, measured post felling with a tape measure. Stem Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The stem dry mass biomass, in kilograms, calculated by multiplying the total fresh mass (see files Stem_Measurements.xlxs), measured in the field, by the dry mass/fresh mass ratios (see file Tissue_density_and_Dry_Mass_Fresh_Mass_Ratios.xlxs), calculated from stem subsamples. Sheath Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The sheath dry mass biomass, in kilograms, calculated by multiplying the total fresh mass (see files Palm_Frond_Measurements.xlxs), measured in the field, by the dry mass/fresh mass ratios (see file Tissue_density_and_Dry_Mass_Fresh_Mass_Ratios.xlxs), calculated from sheath subsamples. Leaflet Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The leaflet dry mass biomass, in kilograms, calculated by multiplying the total fresh mass (see files Palm_Frond_Measurements.xlxs), measured in the field, by the dry mass/fresh mass ratios (see file Tissue_density_and_Dry_Mass_Fresh_Mass_Ratios.xlxs), calculated from leaflet subsamples. Petiole Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The petiole dry mass biomass, in kilograms, calculated by multiplying the total fresh mass (see files Palm_Frond_Measurements.xlxs), measured in the field, by the dry mass/fresh mass ratios (see file Tissue_density_and_Dry_Mass_Fresh_Mass_Ratios.xlxs), calculated from petiole subsamples. Rachis Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The rachis dry mass biomass, in kilograms, calculated by multiplying the total fresh mass (see files Palm_Frond_Measurements.xlxs), measured in the field, by the dry mass/fresh mass ratios (see file Tissue_density_and_Dry_Mass_Fresh_Mass_Ratios.xlxs), calculated from rachis subsamples. Frond Total Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The sum, in kilograms, of the sheath, leaflet, petiole and rachis dry mass biomass for each Raphia laurentii individual. Palm Total Biomass (Dry Mass; kg): The sum, in kilograms, of the stem, sheath, leaflet, petiole and rachis dry mass biomass for each Raphia laurentii individual.
